About the hut

The Dunmail hut is on the main road between Grasmere and Keswick on A591 at the summit of Dunmail Raise.Grid ref.NY 330111. The club has owned Raise Cottage since 1947.The property is maintained by the voluntary efforts of the members of the Achille Ratti Climbing Club mainly for the use of young people and visiting climbing clubs. The hut has 38 bed spaces in 4 dormitories. From time to time the hut is used as a base for club meets.

  • Two-storey building with water supply and septic tank draining.
  • Hot water, cooking etc. by propane gas.
  • Sleeping arrangements: 4 dormitories accomodating 7,7,12 and 12 persons. Mainly double-deck bunks.
    Mixed parties welcome, although mixed occupation of dormitories is not permitted.
  • Seperate male & female toilet suites, each with two WCs and appropriate wash basins. Seperate shower.
  • Large kitchen, fully equipped for party catering, with commercial cooker, grill, microwave and fridge.
  • Large dining/recreation/lecture area.
  • Lounge with open fire.
  • Heated drying room.
